I have fired so many different weapons that I can't recall them all. I got my first shotgun in 1967. It was a single shot 20 gauge and I was 8 years old. I had hunted and killed every species of game in the state of Alabama by the time I was 16 years old. I have not hunted since. Just burned out on it I guess. Got burned out on fishing too. I Still like to shoot from time to time though. I shot a 9mm Glock 19c and one of the new 45 G.A.P Glock pistols just the other day. I guess the 45 G.A.P isn't all that new anymore but it was new to me. It shoots pretty good too. The recoil isn't too stiff and it just shoots nice. Just like most any Glock. I have to be honest and say that the short frame Glocks are really not my favorite's but I am getting more used to them. I have to carry a 19c at work. I have no choice as what to carry so I just try and get used to them. They shoot just fine but the original Glock 17 just feels a little better in the grip for some reason. The S&W Sigma feels even better than the 17 to me. A lot of people don't seem to like the Sigma but I am not sure why. It shoots every time the trigger is pulled and is about as accurate as the shooter is capable of being. Most guns are. I have shot the 454 Casul a few times and also the big 480 Ruger revolvers. I don't shoot the big hand cannons much anymore because the recoil bothers my hands now. First revolver I ever owned was a S&W model 19 357 mag and soon afterwards I got a Ruger Blackhawk 44 Mag. Now I mostly just shoot my old Marlin 22 auto. rifle. I have had it for years now. I got it back in the 70's when I was about 15. This is my first post here so I will hush for now.

You "have" to carry a Glock at work - are you a LEO or security guard? I've never fired a Glock. I probably should at some point.

I'm currently saving up to buy a S&W Model 500. I'm pretty set on the 8-3/8" barrel, but the others are interesting as well. The 10.5" one is appealing because of the increased power and more complete powder burning, but it looks like some sort of handgun/rifle hybrid. The shorter bbls would probably be good for EDC, but I'm not planning on that. The 8-3/8" seems to be a good compromise between power and looking like a more-or-less normal handgun. I'll be reloading, seeing as how each round is $2.50. I'm probably going to be my friend's backup when/if he next goes boar hunting, and the 500 sounds ideal for that.

Good to have you here, Fatlight!

I am both. I just do Reserves now and am working as a security officer. The company I work for doesn't want to call us security guards anymore. I don't care what title they call me as long as I get paid for all these freakin 12 hour shifts I been working! I always looked at it like this. If you see a guy in a uniform with weapon at a plant or office building and he ain't a cop, well then he's a security guard. I never thought of it as a demeaning term but some people do. I was a full time cop back in the 80's. I still do the Reserve deputy thing. And yes you should definitly check out the ol glock sometime. They sure ain't pretty but the are truly as functional as can be. I suppose that I am a dinosaur but I still prefer wheel guns to semi autos. I know that you have a lot more shots but I just shoot revolvers much better. But, I like em all!

Cool. I find semi-autos generally easier to handle, but wheelguns just feel "right."

I have fired many blackpowder weapons before too. I once had an old, and I mean old, 60 calibre precussion rifle. I don't know when it was made or even where. It could have even been made locally but I doubt it. A gunsmith looked at and made an educated guess that it was at least 100 years old. This was in the early 80's so you can see it was a fairly old gun. That was a fun rifle to shoot. I never hunted with but I did loan it to friend who went Elk hunting with it. He said it dropped his Elk better than any rifle he had ever used. Even better than his 338 Winchester. Needless to say, but he now owns the rifle and I wish I had kept it :-)

I recently went and tried my hand at sporting clays. It is very very fun to try and shoot them. I went down to Talladega County to where some people shoot them. Now, what happened was, I got my ass kicked by a bunch of old men. They shoot all the time because they are all retired. Add to that the fact that they are all good shots and competitive shooters, and I am not, and you will have an idea of the butt kickin I took :banghead: :lolsign:

Last weekend, my friend and I went to Reed's in Sunnyvale for the express purpose of renting, and rent we did.

.500 Magnum! Yee-haw!

We rented a S&W Model 500 with a 4" barrel, and bought a box of 20 rounds of Hornady 350gr. The bill at the end of the session came out to around $120... yowch.

One day... one day, I'll have enough money to buy one of these (in 8-3/8"). One day.

Yes, one day you will. If you really want too. I have never shot one of those before. I shot a Ruger 480 and 50 AE fairly recently. In fact I shot an aquaintance 50 AE Desert Eagle and he also has an AR15 type Carbine that is chambered for 50 AE. That was a lot of fun shooting. Shot a 10 MM Glock and 10 MM EA Witness pistols recently too. I like the 10 MM. It is underated in my book. It is a little harder to control than 40 S&W but it is a lot of fun to shoot. It just feels........ powerful. I guess that sounds dumb but that is how it feels to me. I think I may buy one soon. I want a Glock and want to buy a 6 inch barrel to go in it. That is the way the one I shot the other day was set up and it shot good. Come to think of it, that Witness shot pretty good too. It was the polymer version. It is a bit less expensive than the Glock, I may decide to get that instead. I do like the Witness platform. It is basically a larger calibre CZ 75. The CZ 75 is a nice pistol as well. But I don't think it comes in 10 MM. I had one in 9MM in the past. Like a lot of other weapons I have owned, I sold it. Now, I wish I hadn't.
